ADHD:
Although approximately 4% of adults in the US have ADHD, only 1 out of 10 seek treatment. Additionally, many parent teen conflicts result from an adolescent’s ADHD that may or may not have been diagnosed. The good news is that ADHD is very treatable.
Brian’s treatment approach to ADHD includes:
 |
Psycho education - Understanding how ADHD causes the impact that it does and how one’s struggles are related to ADHD |
 |
Coaching/Skills Building – Working collaboratively with the client to develop and implement specific strategies to compensate for areas of difficulty |
 |
Psychotherapy – To address issues that often accompany ADHD such as low self esteem, relationship issues, anxiety and depression |
 |
Family Support – Helping family members better understand ADHD and how they can best be supportive |
 |
Medication Referral |
Brian has attended trainings and workshops with numerous leaders in the field of ADHD research and treatment including Edward Hallowell, MD, Russell Barkley, PhD, Kathleen Nadeau, PhD, Arthur Robin, PhD, Kevin Murphy, PhD, Barbara Ingersoll, PhD, J. Russell Ramsey, PhD and Anthony Rostain, MD.

Treatment Style:
Brian believes the most important ingredient in successful psychotherapy is the therapeutic alliance - the match between therapist and client that feels “right.” The client’s input is highly valued. It is the collaborative process between therapist and client that leads to positive change. To achieve these ends, Brian utilizes a variety of treatment approaches that best match the client’s specific needs, including psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral therapies, Imago Relationship Therapy, and Mindfulness.
Experience:
For over 20 years, Brian has helped adolescents and adults in a variety of settings including residential treatment with at risk youth, outreach counseling in the local public schools and recreation centers, outpatient psychotherapy in the military community, hospital social work with cancer patients, group counseling at a youth detention center and outpatient psychotherapy in private practice. For two years Brian served as a volunteer in Central America providing outreach services to the local community and leading youth groups.
