Information About ADHD

My approach to treatment:

It is very common in our society to suffer feelings of inadequacy, to blame ourselves, and to generally feel as if we are “not good enough.”  These feelings often become more acute during times of pain and distress. As children, we had to develop very specific coping strategies to deal with family dynamics, painful life experiences and the inevitable stress that accompanies living in our complex world. These learned coping strategies and ways of interacting with others, which were often inevitable and so necessary for survival, frequently have consequences for us as we get older and ironically, cause us more emotional pain and suffering.  

My approach to treatment is positive, strength-based and collaborative. I assist clients in discovering their inherent value and internal resources. Working in the psychotherapy field for over 20 years has taught me that the wisdom and capacity to heal lies within each of us, but often we need guidance in learning additional tools and coping strategies in order to access this self healing. I have great respect for my clients’ self-knowledge and courage to change.

In addition to the more traditional psychodymanic and cognitive behavioral therapies, I also incorporate several other treatment modalities individually tailored to each person’s needs, including the Imago Relationship Therapy approach with couples, ADHD skills-building, mindfulness meditation, focusing, and other mind-body approaches.
