Dr. Rim Mghir has been in private practice in Virginia since 1997. She specializes in psycho-
pharmacological treatment for a wide range of mental disorders. Much of her focus in treatment is on
anxiety and affective disorders, and post-traumatic stress disorder. She worked with combat veterans at
the Veterans Administration Hospital at Perry Point, Maryland for three years prior to entering private
practice. She also has conducted research studies on the impact of war trauma on adolescent refugees
from Afghanistan. Dr. Mghir has a specialty in geriatric psychiatry. She treats an older population in
her practice, with the particular psychiatric presentation of that age group.
In her practice, Dr. Mghir emphasizes open rapport with her patients. She places great emphasis on a
thorough evaluation of the patient's medical, psychological and social background and history at the
outset of treatment. This provides the framework for formulating a treatment plan, which is presented
to, and discussed with, the patient. Dr. Mghir works closely with other health professionals involved in
the care of her patients, and monitors closely the progress of their treatment.
